The East Coast Community Ocean Forecast System (ECCOFS) is a next-generation ocean modeling initiative designed to provide real-time forecasts of ocean conditions—currents, temperature, salinity, and sea level—along the entire U.S. East Coast, extending from the Orinoco River to the Grand Banks. Developed collaboratively across five IOOS Regional Associations, ECCOFS builds upon regional systems like MARACOOS’s Doppio model, expanding both scale and precision to better serve coastal communities, industries, and decision-makers.

ECCOFS is being developed through a community-driven approach, with input and collaboration from mariners, forecasters, emergency managers, coastal planners, researchers, and industry partners. Together, this partnership is shaping a powerful forecasting tool that supports safer navigation, improved coastal hazard preparedness, and informed ocean management across the East Coast.
